I'm now in my 18th year as the Gater's Music Director/Assistant Program Director and in my 13th year holding down the fort as the Gater's Afternoon Drive Air Talent. I was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and raised in Sarasota. I graduated from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa (KDIC-FM) and paid my radio dues in Sarasota/St. Petersburg (WQSR), Gainesville (WGVL), and Orlando (WORJ-Zeta7, WDIZ and WLOQ.) From 1981 to 1991 I lived in Hawaii and worked at KPOI-98 Rock "The Rock You Live On" and KHFX "Hawaii's Classic Rock."  I did my first show on the Gater April 13, 1991 broadcasting from an old funeral home just off Orange Avenue in Ft. Pierce.

I live steps from the beach on Singer Island with my 3 cats Angus, Tipsy, and Atom. You'll hear The Allman Brothers and The Grateful Dead along with Pat Metheny, Little Feat, Santana and Pink Floyd always spnning at my place. People often hear me say "It'll be Fun!" and that sums it up nicely. Remember that though short in stature Warren Haynes is a towering Fire-God who looks down upon us mere mortals and laughs. Andy's Hair Restoration
Wednesday 07-30-2008 3:02pm ET

If your receding hair line is starting to bug you then you're like me. Andy Preston here saying "You can do something about it!" Here's the developing story of how
I'm growing younger.

THE BEGINNING

About 5 years ago a friend of mine made a joke about my bald spot. BALD SPOT, I didn't even know I had one! With the help of two mirrors I found out much to my chagrin that there was in fact a bald spot on the back of the top of my head. The good news, I thought, was that it was only the size of a dime, so no big deal. But it didn't stay that way, it grew and grew and finally got larger than any coin in any country in the world, Yikes!
Even so, I said like Popeye said, "I yam what I yam." Besides it was in the back, I never saw it. Then as more and more hairs wound up in my brush, I saw my hairline start going backward! The big fear became what would happen when the hole in the back joined up with the retreat in the front, "The Dreaded Horseshoe Head," Double Yikes!
There's no way, with all the advances in hair restoration these days, I was going to settle for that without a fight. I did my research online and actually visited a few clinics before I found my answer.

FIRST STEP

Dr. Ricardo Mejia and I met to get a personal analysis of where I was with my hair
and what they could do for me at Jupiter Dermatology and Hair Restoration. I was initially impressed by the beautiul spa-like atmosphere at their office in the Driftwood Plaza just south of Jupiter on US 1. It only a few moments of talking with Dr. Mejia to realize I was dealing with a friendly, outgoing professional with the absolute best credentials. He answered in detail every question I had and made me feel so comfortable making a major life-changing decision. It took about an hour for us to customize a treatment program to fit my situation (and the hairline I wanted) and to set a date for my hair transplant surgery. For a great overview of the options you have in hair restoration please spend some time with Dr. Mejia's excellent and informative website: skinandhairdoc.com
This site will answer the basic questions, options, and even has a graft calculator to help you get the look you want. But, believe me, you'll want to get the personal consultation with Dr. Mejia to have total confidence in your decision.

THE BIG DAY

After filling in advance prescriptions for analgesics, anti-inflammatories, and antibiotics I arrived at the office around 8:30AM. The first thing we did was take the all important "BEFORE" pictures so we'd have a baseline to actually document the ultimate improvements. Let me here compliment Dr. Mejia's great staff at Jupiter Dermatology and Hair Restoration. Throughout the day they paid close attention to my comfort levels, they kept my spirits buoyed and they impressed me with their expertise. They are a hard working crew! After they took the donor hairs, follicles, and roots from the back of head I had a slice of pizza. Then Dr. Mejia and his team of four got busy! Under microscopes with these high tech Exacto-knives they seperated each hair or tiny hair bundle and placed them on a petri dish according to their various sizes. While the team was seperating the hairs Dr. Mejia was working on my scalp creating thousands of tiny inserion points for the grafts. Finally over several hours the Dr. and his two top assistants worked non-stop with precision forceps to plant several thousand grafts and start me on my way to my new look.
